O artigo analisa as representações da zona do meretrício de Passo Fundo (RS) no jornal local O Nacional, nos anos 1949-1955, quando o periódico lançou uma campanha para a retirada da zona da Rua Quinze de Novembro, no centro da cidade. Através das matérias publicadas e da fonte oral, busca-se estabelecer a relação dessas representações com a construção de um imaginário sobre aquele espaço que perdura até os dias atuais. Nesse processo os registros da imprensa se articulam à memória social coletiva na elaboração e legitimação de determinadas visões de mundo, que atuam sobre a sociedade.
The article analyzes the representations of the red light district of Passo Fundo (RS) in the local newspaper O Nacional in the years 1949-1955, when the newspaper launched a campaign for the removal of the brothels from the downtown area. Through the stories published and oral sources, it seeks to establish the relation of these representations with the construction of an imaginary about that space that lasts until the present. In this process, press records are articulated with the collective social memory in the elaboration and legitimation of certain worldviews that affect society.
