This work aims at analyzing the feeling of fault in Bernardo Kucinski’s K. Relato de uma busca (2011) and Os visitantes (2016). The first book deals with the saga of a father in search of his daughter, Ana Rosa, who was probably murdered by torturers during the 1964-1985 Brazilian Military Dictatorship. The second one consists of revising and correcting certain points of view presented in the first text by readers who visited the author and questioned him. It is noted, in several passages of the books, that the father, victim of the brutality of the dictatorial system, feels guilty for the death of his daughter, while the State acts violently, even confessing certain crimes, without being punished or held responsible for its atrocities. These are books which promote reflection on the violent and arbitrary power exercised by the State both in the past and in the present time. Thus, they stimulate resistance to the authoritarianism historically and socially implanted in Brazil. Sigmund Freud, Cathy Caruth, Giorgio Agamben, and Márcio Seligmann-Silva are the main authors who underscore the present approach.
