O período referente às décadas de 1950 e 1960 foi marcado pela busca de um mundo mais humano, uma ideologia que foi contra os princípios do capitalismo. Houve nessa época, o surgimento de movimentos contraculturais como a geração beat, o movimento hippie e a retomada de manifestações culturais anteriores aos anos 1960. Jack Kerouac publicou em 1957 seu On the road, obra que iniciou uma revolução cultural nos Estados Unidos, tornando-se manifesto da geração beat ao romper com o compromisso da chamada american way of life e ao mesmo tempo inaugurou uma forma dinâmica de narrar. Este artigo analisa o romance On the road de Jack Kerouac e suas influências na literatura contemporânea.

The period refers to the decades of 1950 and 1960 was marked by the search for a more humane world, an ideology that was against the principles of capitalism. There was at that time, the emergence of countercultural movements such as beat generation, the hippie movement and the resumption of previous cultural expressions at 1960s Jack Kerouac published in 1957 his On the road, work that started a cultural revolution in the United States, making manifest of the beat generation to break the commitment called american way of life and at the same time ushered in a dynamic way of narrating. This article analyzes the novel On the road by Jack Kerouac and their influence on contemporary literature.
