Em 1886 a atriz Sarah Bernhardt fez sua primeira excursão para o Rio de Janeiro. Essa visita significou uma oportunidade para os fluminenses assistirem, em língua francesa, dramas que já haviam sido representados em italiano e português europeu, por Eleonora Duse e Lucinda Simões, respectivamente. Com a vinda de Mme. Sarah criou-se uma grande especulação, na qual tomavam parte a imprensa, comerciantes, cambistas e falsificadores de bilhetes. No Diário de Notícias, além da coluna fixa “Sarah Bernhardt”, as informações sobre o dia a dia da diva eram veiculadas na seção “De palanque”, assinada por Artur Azevedo e na seção anônima “Foyer”. Com base nos textos publicados nesses três espaços, mostraremos como se deu esse grande acontecimento na capital do Império

In 1886 the actress Sarah Bernhardt made her first visit to Rio de Janeiro. This trip meant an opportunity to fluminense people watch in French language some dramas that had been represented in Italian and European Portuguese by Eleonora Duse and Lucinda Simoes respectively. With the arrival of Ms. Sarah there was a great speculation in what the press, scalpers and tickets falsifiers took part. At Diary News, besides the editorial section “Sarah Bernhardt”, the informations about the diva´s daily could also be seen at the section “De Palanque” signed by Artur Azevedo and in the anonymous section “Foyer”. Based on the texts published in these three spaces, we will show how this great event happened in the capital Empire.
