A complexa estruturação do arranjo histórico-social do mundo sertanejo, somada à necessidade do geógrafo em não se contentar com concepções esquemáticas sobre a verdade, justificam a recorrência à literatura regional goiana. O objetivo deste artigo é a análise do mundo sertanejo de Goiás sob a perspectiva da interação Geografia e Literatura. Recorre-se à literatura buscando apreender a multidimensionalidade da existência em Goiás com foco no garimpo e no trabalho do garimpeiro. Neste sentido, o conto O patuá, de Bariani Ortêncio, mostra a árdua e conflituosa vida daqueles que, na sanha da garimpagem, desafiavam os vaticínios do cotidiano em busca da vida afortunada.

The complex structuring of the historical-social arrangement of the sertanejo world, coupled with the geographer's need to not be content with schematic conceptions of truth, justify the recurrence of regional literature in Goiás. The objective of this article is the analysis of the sertanejo world of Goiás from the perspective of the interaction Geography and Literature. Literature is used to perceive the multidimensionality of existence in Goiás with a focus on the garimpo and the work of the garimpeiro. In this sense, the tale ‘O Patuá’, by Bariani Ortencio, shows the arduous and conflicting life of those who, in the wake of the mining, defied the daily predictions in search of a fortunate life
