O artigo consiste em compreender a Amazônia no pensamento da Marinha do Brasil, de modo que se identifique os debates internos da força, as prioridades estabelecidas e as suas atribuições para a defesa da região amazônica. Para tal finalidade, procurou-se analisar a presença da Marinha brasileira na região amazônica, por meio: da crescente prestação de suporte logístico e da criação do 9º Distrito Naval; e do correspondente aprestamento das forças de emprego fluvial, incluindo as Operações Ribeirinhas. A metodologia empregada na pesquisa deste artigo foi qualitativa e de análise documental, do período correspondente aos anos de 1992 a 2008. Fontes consultadas: documentos do Ministério da Marinha e do Ministério da Defesa; monografias dos cursos da Escola de Guerra Naval; periódicos profissionais militares; livros de autores militares da Marinha; e entrevistas com ex-Ministros e ex-Comandantes da Marinha do Brasil. A análise destas diferentes fontes possibilitou a identificação das linhas de pensamento predominantes e que, consequentemente, influenciaram na formulação da estratégia da Marinha do Brasil para a defesa da Amazônia.
This paper consists of understanding the Amazonia in the Brazilian Navy thought, in order to identify the internal debates, the established priorities and its responsabilities for the defence of the Amazonia region. To this end, we sought to analyze the growing presence of the Brazilian Navy in the Amazonia region, through the provision of logistical support and the creation of the 9th Naval District and in the corresponding deployment of river employment forces, including the Riverside Operations. The methodology used in the research of this article was qualitative with document analysis from the period corresponding to the years 1992 to 2008. Documents consulted: from the Ministry of the Navy and the Ministry of Defense; monographs from the Brazilian Naval War College; military journals; books by military author from the Brazilian Navy; and interviews with former Ministers and former Commanders of the Brazilian Navy. The analysis of these diferent sources made it possible to identify the predominant line of thought that influenced the formulation of the Brazilian Navy’s strategy for the Amazonia.
