O artigo tem o objetivo de discutir os problemas centrais que a educação contemporânea enfrenta em relação aos processos formativos, tais como: o perfil dos egressos dos cursos em relação às necessidades e demandas da sociedade, a urgência de um conhecimento interdisciplinar e a responsabilidade ética e cidadã. A metodologia consiste num estudo bibliográfico, via hermenêutica de textos. Os conceitos centrais que servem de aporte teórico para este estudo compreendem as temáticas da Interdisciplinaridade, da Crise de paradigmas e as Alternativas para o futuro em sociedade. Habermas, Freire e Santos são os três autores que servem de horizonte na reflexão crítica sobre o tema e nos inspiram na busca dos fundamentos para uma educação do futuro. O desafio apontado é o de construir um novo modelo de formação cultural, que supere os problemas mais profundos do mundo atual, tais como: a alienação, a exclusão social, a banalização da violência e a crise ética da atualidade.
