Práticas ASG (Ambiente, Social e Governança), ou ESG (Environmental, Social and
A performance

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices can generate several benefits for both
firms and society. Consequently, ESG initiatives may provide a basis for investment strategies. In
this context, the present study examines the persistence of the risk-adjusted performance of
Brazilian mutual funds classified in the sustainability/governance category. Specifically, the
objective of this research is to analyze whether the performance of sustainable funds tends to
persist over time. As a distinguishing feature compared to previous studies, this research focuses
exclusively on this category of funds and employs an eighteen-year time series, allowing for a
long-term assessment of performance persistence. Risk-adjusted performance was measured using
Jensen's Alpha over the period from January 2005 to December 2022. The research hypothesis
was tested through panel data regression analysis. Based on a sample of 50 funds, the main
findings indicate that, on average, past fund performance does not have a positive effect on future
performance. These results provide additional insights for investors when evaluating assets to be
included in their investment portfolios. However, the findings should be interpreted with caution
due to certain limitations, including the use of a single performance measure and the relatively
small number of funds analyzed, which may limit the generalizability of the results.
