Este artigo pretende fazer uma análise acerca do papel da literatura na sociedade tendo como base o romance A menina que roubava livros de Markus Zusak, apreendendo nossas ideias em torno da personificação da Morte em que o autor faz em sua construção narrativa. A Morte narra a história ao mesmo tempo em que leva ao leitor ao pensamento crítico das relações acerca do ser humano na sociedade e o momento de partida, ou seja, da morte. Nossa base teórica é a crítica literária e a história.
