Neste artigo procuramos abordar os projetos do arquiteto Lebbeus Woods a partir
da leitura cruzada de dois livros: The Architectural Uncanny: Essays in the Modern Unhomely e
Warped space, de Anthony Vidler. Nos dois livros, lançados, respectivamente, em 1992 e 2000,
o arquiteto, crítico e historiador norte-americano investiga o conceito do estranhamente familiar
na contemporaneidade. O autor estabelece a correspondência entre arquitetura, psicologia
e filosofia, remontando sua análise até a literatura do romantismo alemão, que deu origem às
histórias de terror e sobrenaturais. Esse estudo leva às questões atuais sobre a alienação do sujeito
e a relação entre o design arquitetônico e as patologias do espaço. Sua análise procura relacionar
que “os problemas ligados ao gênero e ao sujeito podem ser associados à permanência do discurso
de alienação e do Outro no contexto social e político da exclusão racial, étnica e das minorias”
(vidler, 2008, p. 622). No entrecruzamento entre esses dois compêndios, buscamos posicionar
o trabalho de Lebbeus Woods e suas investigações teóricas como uma força de resistência política.
Tal intento reside na defesa de uma ética nas intervenções arquitetônicas em sítios arruinado por
eventos traumáticos

In this article we address the projects of the architect Lebbeus Woods from the cross
reading of two books: The Architectural Uncanny: Essays in the Modern Unhomely and Warped
space, from Anthony Vidler. In both books, published respectively in 1992 and 2000, the architect,
critic and American historian investigates the uncanny concept in contemporary times. The author
establishes the correspondence between architecture, psychology and philosophy, going back to his
analysis of German romantic literature, which gave rise to horror stories and the supernatural. This
study tackles the current issues of the alienation of the subject and the relationship between architectural
design and the conditions of space. His analysis seeks to show that “the problems related to
gender and the subject can be associated with the permanence of alienation and the concept of the
Other at the social and political context of racial, ethnic and minority groups exclusion.” In the intersection
between these two books, we seek to position the work of Lebbeus Woods and his theoretical
investigations as a force of political resistance. Such intent lies in the defense of ethics in architectural
interventions in places ruined by traumatic events.
