O objetivo principal deste artigo é analisar a seguinte questão: é possível a anterioridade de alguns estados intencionais em relação à linguagem? Este problema será abordado especialmente recorrendo a dois autores: John Searle (1932-) e Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), especificamente o segundo Wittgenstein. Veremos que, embora estes dois filósofos se contraponham em alguns aspectos na abordagem da línguagem, ambos defendem que algumas formas de intencionalidade são anteriores à nossa aquisição da linguagem.
My principal aim in this article is to analyse the following question: Its possible to have intentional states before the aquisition of language? This problem will be discussed from the perspectives of the philosophy of John Searle (1932-) and the later Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951). We will see that, in spite of the fact that both philosophers disagree in some opinions about the nature of language, both defend the thesis that some kinds of intentional states preceed the acquisition of language.
