A partir do século XI, se iniciaram na Europa uma série de peregrinações rumo a Terra Santa em busca do perdão dos
pecados e da misericórdia divina. Tais movimentações foram motivadas pelo temor da condenação no JuÃzo Final, que
acreditava-se estar bem próximo. A partir daÃ, por meio dos ConcÃlios, a Igreja foi sistematizando e formalizando os
vários instrumentos da misericórdia divina, que ela, enquanto dispensadora e guardiã desses tesouros, podia distribuir
aos seus filhos. Desse modo, o presente artigo tem como objetivo apresentar como a concepção de indulgência foi tratada
pela Igreja ao longo de seus ConcÃlios, e assim também oferecer subsÃdios para melhor compreensão da própria Reforma
Protestante, cujo mote inicial foi a crÃtica à s indulgências pelo então Frei Martinho Lutero.
From the eleventh century, began in Europe a number of pilgrimages towards the Holy Land in search of the forgiveness
of sins and divine mercy. Such movements were motivated by the fear of damnation in the Last Judgment, which was
believed to be very close. From there, through councils, the Church was systematizing and formalizing the various
instruments of divine mercy, which her as guardian and dispenser of these treasures could distribute to their children.
Thus, this article aims to present as the design of indulgence was treated by the Church over its councils, and thus also
provide insight to better understanding of one’s Protestant Reformation, whose initial theme was criticism of indulgences
by then Frei Martinho Luther.
