Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar os fatores que contribuíram para o surgimento de relações transfronteiriças num segmento da zona da fronteira brasileiro-paraguaia, formado pelos municípios de Pato Bragado (Paraná - BR) e Nueva Esperanza- (Dept. de Canindeyú - PY). A análise, parte do ano de 1982, notadamente ano da formação do Reservatório da Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu quando se observa a emergência de interações transfronteiriças entre os dois municípios. As redes de interação transfronteiriças são recentes e se devem, sobretudo, as profundas mudanças ocorridas na região, com a formação do Lago de Itaipu.

This paper aims to analyze the factors that contributed to the emergence of cross-border relations in a segment of the Brazilian-Paraguayan border zone, formed by the municipalities of Pato Bragado (Paraná - BR) and Nueva Esperanza- (Dept. de Canindeyú - PY). The analysis begins in 1982, notably the year of the formation of the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant Reservoir when the emergence of cross-border interactions between the two municipalities is observed. It shows that the transboundary interaction networks are recent and due, above all, to the profound changes that occurred in the region, with the formation of Itaipu Lake.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar los factores que contribuyeron al surgimiento de las relaciones transfronterizas en un segmento de la zona fronteriza paraguayo-brasileña, formado por los municipios de Pato Bragado (Paraná - BR) y Nueva Esperanza- (Departamento de Canindeyú - PY). El análisis comienza en 1982, especialmente el año de la formación del embalse de la central hidroeléctrica de Itaipú, cuando se observa la aparición de interacciones transfronterizas entre los dos municipios. Las redes de interacción transfronterizas son recientes y se deben, sobre todo, a los profundos cambios que ocurrieron en la región, con la formación del lago Itaipu.
