The integument forms a fundamental barrier between the other systems of the animal body and the elements of the external world to it. In the skin of dogs there are resident bacteria, transient and pathogenic, and resident bacteria live in symbiosis with the animal. Staphylococcus sp. is a resident microorganism of the skin, but is the most common cause of pyoderma. Chlorhexidine is an excellent antiseptic for skin wounds, since it establishes a fast bactericidal action, but when used with heavy mineralized water can diminish its effect, and in salt solutions occurs to the precipitation and inactivation of chlorhexidine. The water of the municipality of Montes Claros / MG is considered moderately hard. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of chlorhexidine gluconate in different concentrations, diluted in the water of the municipality, against microorganisms common in dog skin lesions. The population of this study was composed of the common microbiota in the skin of dogs. Being the interest of this pharmacological research the research sample was obtained from the microorganisms bank of FUNORTE laboratory, the tests for evaluation followed the model of antibiogram, using the diffuser disk and comparing the halo of action of chlorhexidine. In this research it was verified that the different concentrations of chlorhexidine did not show any difference in the efficacy of inhibition of the microorganisms used in the research. However, Staphylococcus aureus was more sensitive to chlorhexidine than other microorganisms, and Montes Claros / MG water, despite its hardness, did not influence the efficiency of the antiseptic.
