O tema abordado no presente trabalho apresenta uma análise sobre as características que envolvem a profissão docente e a influência dessas características na sua prática docente e na saúde física e mental. Procura ainda refletir sobre as especificidades da prática docente, entendidas como as ocupações profissionais do professor, com sua saúde física e mental. A constituição do ‘Ser Professor e as suas atribuições profissionais repercutem na sua saúde, assim como, em que
medida a saúde do profissional influenciam na motivação e efetivação do trabalho docente. O acúmulo de tarefas, o ambiente de trabalho e as particularidades no desenvolvimento da formação e da profissão docente têm como conseqüência para saúde, entre outros, o aparecimento da Síndrome de Burnout. É grande o número de absenteísmo do professor e/ou de afastamento de suas ocupações e, ainda a antecipação de aposentadoria por invalidez por doenças causadas pelas atividades da profissão docente. Sendo assim, se faz urgente um atendimento especial ao professor a partir das necessidades e características de sua profissão, assim como melhorias nas condições do ambiente de trabalho relacionadas aos diferentes e complexos aspectos da ocupação docente.
The topic addressed in this paper presents an analysis of the characteristics that involve the teaching profession and the influence of these characteristics on their teaching practice and on their physical and mental health. It also seeks to reflect on the specificities of teaching practice, understood as the professional occupations of the teacher, with their physical and mental health. The constitution of ‘Being a Teacher’ and their professional attributions have repercussions on their health, as well as the extent to which the health of the professional influences the motivation and effectiveness of teaching work. The accumulation of tasks, the work environment and the particularities in the development of the training and teaching profession have consequences for health, among others, the appearance of Burnout Syndrome. There is a large number of teacher absenteeism and/or time away from their occupations, and also early retirement due to disability due to illnesses caused by the activities of the teaching profession. Therefore, special care for teachers based on the needs and characteristics of their profession is urgently needed, as well as improvements in the conditions of the work environment related to the different and complex aspects of the teaching occupation.
