Este tem como objetivo discutir o modo como a cidade do Rio de Janeiro é tematizada em A Hora da Estrela, de Clarice Lispector, bem como analisar as relações conflituosas entre a protagonista Macabéa e o contexto urbano à sua volta. Transitamos por alguns comentadores que tematizam a cidade, a sociedade e a literatura, a saber: Calvino (1991), Gomes (1994) Rolnik (1994), dentre outros que problematizam a temática em questão. As discussões revelam que a literatura é um importante meio de representação da sociedade, já que permite o registro da realidade de um momento histórico que pode antecipar tendências e mudanças. No que tange ao processo de modernização e urbanização das cidades, a literatura constrói e posiciona diferentes sujeitos na sociedade.

This article aims to discuss how the Rio de Janeiro ́s city is thematized in The Hour of the Star (A Hora da Estrela), Clarice Lispector, as well as to analyze the conflicting relationship between the protagonist, Macabéa, and the urban context that they are surrounded by. We have been through some commentators, who dominate the foreground of the city, society and literature, e.g.: Calvin (1991), Gomes (1994) Rolnik (1994) among others who problematize the issue under ventilation.The discussions reveal that literature is an important way to represent the society, since it captures the reality of a historical moment which can anticipate trends and changes. Regarding the process of cities modernization and urbanization, literature helps to nurture and positions different individuals in society.
