Este artigo tem como objetivo principal, apresentar os fundamentos jurídicos e doutrinários que norteiam o Direito Internacional Humanitário, também denominado Direito Internacional dos Conflitos Armados, e suas implicações quanto aos aspectos relacionados ao emprego de tropas em Operações de Paz sob a égide das Nações Unidas. O tema proposto procura analisar de que forma se deu a introdução do ensino desta disciplina no âmbito das Forças Armadas, especialmente na formação do cadete do Exército, e quais os possíveis desdobramentos que serão advindos. A questão abordada se refere muito além do que meramente a aplicação de normas de engajamento a serem observadas por tropas em Operações de Paz. O posicionamento crítico daqueles que irão comandar estas tropas deverá ser embasado nos ditames daquilo que a comunidade internacional impõe como escopo normativo - garantidor da eficácia do Direito Internacional Humanitário.

The main objective of this article is to present the legal and doctrinal foundations guiding International Humanitarian Law, also known as International Law on Armed Conflicts, and its implica tions for aspects related to the use of troops in Peace Operations under the aegis of the United Nations. The proposed theme seeks to analyze how the introduction of the teaching of this discipline within the scope of the Armed Forces, especially in the formation of the army cadet, and what the possible unfolding that will come from it. The issue addressed goes far beyond merely applying the norms of engagement to be observed by troops in Peace Operations, rather, in a critical position of those who will command these troops, which should be based on the dictates of what the community international law imposes as normative - guarantor scope of the effectiveness of international humanitarian law.
