Imagem recorrente nas metaficções contemporâneas, o labirinto alegoriza a própria experiência pós-moderna. As características particulares desta estrutura — fragmentação, descontinuidade, multiplicidade e infinitude — e as sensações associadas à experiência labiríntica — desorientação, incerteza, angústia, ambiguidade — mantêm uma relação estreita com o conceito de metaficção. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar imagens labirínticas presentes no romance A geração da utopia, do escritor angolano Pepetela. Considerando que o labirinto guarda uma ambiguidade intrínseca, representada tanto na estrutura física quanto no campo simbólico, este trabalho também pretende expor uma reflexão sobre a experiência labiríntica como alegoria da metaficção. Serão articuladas teorias sobre metaficção e ficção desenvolvidas por Linda Hutcheon e Vilém Flusser, para discorrer sobre alguns aspectos da literatura metaficcional identificados no romance, como a intertextualidade e a multiplicidade de “verdades”.

A recurrent image in contemporary metafictions, the labyrinth alegorises the post-modern experience. The particularities of this structure – fragmentation, discontinuity, multiplicity and infinitude – and the sensations related to the labyrinthine experience – disorientation, uncertainty, anguish, ambiguity – keep a narrow relation to the concept of metafiction. This essay aims to analyse images of labyrinths built in the novel A geração da utopia, from the Angolan writer Pepetela. Considering that the labyrinth keeps an intrinsical ambiguity both in its physical structure and in its symbolic field, this paper also intends to present a reflection about the labyrinthine experience as an allegory of metafiction. Theories related to fiction and metafiction developed by Linda Hutcheon and Vilém Flusser will be articulated to discuss some aspects of metafictional literature identified in the novel, as intertextuality and the multiplicity of “truths”.
