Africanos que resistiram à colonização têm sido tema de muitas narrativas, desde o início do século XX. Essas figuras históricas são fascinantes e contribuem para a estruturação da imaginação coletiva. Com base em três exemplos (Samori na Guiné, Sarrounia no Níger e Nehanda no Zimbabwe) e em um amplo espectro de fontes orais e escritas em línguas europeias e africanas, refletimos sobre esse fascínio para entender seu funcionamento. Embora atualmente não haja epopeias baseadas em suas histórias, elas, sem dúvida, têm um potencial épico.

Africans who resisted colonization have been the topic of many narratives, since the early 20th century. These historical figures are fascinating and contribute to the structure of collective imagination. Based on three exemples (Samori in today's Guinea, Sarrounia in today's Niger and Nehanda in today's Zimbabwe) and on a wide spectrum of both oral and written sources in both European and African languages, we look at this fascination in order to understand its functioning. Though there currently aren't epics based on their stories, they undoubtedly have an epic potential.
