The present work will present the extension project “Teaching History, Sequential Art and Comics (HQ’s): African, Afro-Brazilian and Afro-American History in Public Basic Education in Xinguara-PA (High School)”. HQ's are “one of the main vehicles of Sequential Art, which would also include cartoons and cinema”, having as their main characteristic “the transmission of messages through images in sequence” (EISNER, 2001; KRAKHECKE, 2009, p.39-40). Finally, added to this definition, its wide applicability (including education) and pedagogical power (improvements in language, reading and imagination) (VERGUEIRO, 2005, p.15-26). The research problem is divided into 2 questions: why can HQ's be used to teach Afro-Brazilian, African and Afro-American History in Public Basic Education in Xinguara-PA (High School / EEEM Pedro R. Mota) and, through them, what are the ways used to apply an Education of Ethnic-Racial Relations in the school environment, encourage an anti-racist and tolerant practice in the daily life of the classes in addition to providing greater autonomy, participation to students in teaching practices (SILVA, 2011, pp .12-13)? In order to answer these questions and achieve the proposed objectives, we used “Angola Janga” (2017), “Cumbe” (2014) and “O Quilombo Orum Aiê” (2010), Brazilian comics written by Marcelo D'Salete and Airton Diniz, together with the North American “Fury of the Panther” (1973), “City Without Pity” (2010) and “Luke Cage and Iron Fist” (1978), produced by Don MacGregor, Chris Claremont and John Arcudi, respectively. Interviews, photos, animations, essays and drawings, generated throughout the project, were also analyzed. Finally, simultaneously, we will dialogue with historical research relevant to the topics mentioned in the comics.
