O presente artigo aborda a relação entre desigualdade e o encarceramento no Brasil no início do século XXI. Considerando que as taxas de aprisionamento no país sofreram súbita elevação a partir dos anos 2000, o artigo pretende analisar a relação entre aquelas e a desigualdade verificada no período, bem como se há suporte fático para aplicação da teoria elaborada por Loïc Wacquant em relação ao encarceramento nos EUA. Por fim, o artigo traça algumas relações entre as dimensões do bem-estar e o encarceramento.
The aim of this article is to establish a connection between inequality and imprisonment in Brazil at the beginning of the 21st century. Considering that the rates of imprisonment in the country have risen rapidly since the 2000s, the article intends to analyze the relation between them and the inequality verified during the period, as well as if there is factual support for the application of the theory elaborated by Loïc Wacquant concerning to the imprisonment in the USA. Finally, the article draws some parallels between the dimensions of welfare and incarceration.
