DESCRIÇÃO DA OPOSIÇÃO PRESENT PERFECT VS. SIMPLE PAST

Este trabalho faz uma descrição dos tempos verbais Present Perfect e Past Simple a partir da dificuldade encontrada por professores e alunos de língua inglesa para trabalharem esta oposição em sala de aula. Para explicar a distinção de valores semânticos entre os tempos, eles são discutidos à luz de noções gramaticais como tempo, aspecto, perfectividade e, por fim, o valor do perfeito. Além da descrição dos tempos, são apresentados e analisados alguns exemplos que aparecem em manuais e gramáticas de ensino de inglês. Finalmente, são apresentados e examinados dois exemplos de uso autêntico do Present Perfect.

Resumo Inglês:

The objective of this paper is to present an account of the English tenses Present Perfect
and Simple Past based on the difficulty found by Brazilian Portuguese speakers, both students and
teachers, when learning/teaching English as a second language in formal settings. In order to explain the
difference between their semantic values, the tenses are discussed in the light of grammatical theories
such as tense, aspect, perfectivity and the perfect value. Besides providing a description of the tenses,
some examples taken from English textbooks and grammars are also provided and analyzed. Finally, two
authentic examples of the Present Perfect in use are presented and examined.
