O presente trabalho traz um estudo acerca da obra Descubrimiento del río de las Amazonas, escrita pelo frei espanhol Gaspar de Carvajal que apresenta a expedição de Francisco de Orellana e Gonzalo Pizarro em 1541/1542 quando cruzaram o Rio Amazonas em busca de novas riquezas e novos territórios. O objetivo é compreender a colonização do território amazônico por meio da cronística do frei e que está inserida no discurso do colonizador, visto que as primeiras impressões do homem europeu sobre as novas terras estão presentes na obra, por isso foi escolhida diante de muitas narrativas que apresentam a Amazônia para o mundo, pois possui pontos muito importantes que revelam o olhar europeu sobre a América, também por servir de marco histórico no que diz respeito à colonização da Amazônia. Para isso, desenvolveram-se estudos bibliográficos sobre os temas, utilizando-se autores como Pizarro (2005), Heufemann-Barría (2014), Mignolo (1982) e Almeida (2013) entre outros.
This work presents a study about the work of the discovery of the river of the Amazons, written by the Spanish friar Gaspar de Carvajal, who presents the expedition of Francisco de Orellana and Gonzalo Pizarro in 1541/1542 when they crossed the Amazon River in search of new riches and new territories. The objective is to understand the colonization of the Amazonian territory by means of the chronicle of the frei and that are inserted in the discourse of the colonizer, since the first impressions of the European man on the new lands are present in the work, so it was chosen before many narratives that present the Amazon to the world, because it has very important points that reveal the European view on America, also because it serves as historical landmark with regard to the colonization of the Amazon. For this, bibliographic studies on the themes were developed, using authors such as Pizarro (2005), Heufemann-Barría (2014), Mignolo (1982) and Almeida (2013) among others.
