É essencial que o cirurgião-dentista tenha domínio dos fármacos que venha a utilizar durante o manejo de seus pacientes. Observa-se uma insegurança dos acadêmicos de Odontologia ao prescreverem determinados medicamentos. Esse estudo descritivo, de coorte transversal, com abordagem quantitativa, teve o objetivo de avaliar o conhecimento dos acadêmicos de Odontologia sobre a prescrição de fármacos, levando a uma reflexão sobre as responsabilidades que o ato de prescrever requer. Após a aplicação de um questionário realizado com 150 acadêmicos de Odontologia das Faculdades Unidas do Norte de Minas- FUNORTE, percebeu-se um percentual notável de acerto. Porém, houve erros significativos que, prescritos de maneira incorreta, poderiam colocar em risco a saúde do paciente. Contudo, foi identificada a necessidade de reavaliação no enfoque teórico e nas principais dificuldades encontradas através deste estudo, seja em distribuição equivalente na grade acadêmica ou calibração entre as disciplinas clínicas. Sendo assim, é de fundamental importância buscar um aprimoramento técnico e cientifico durante a faculdade.

It is essential that the dental surgeon has the field of drugs that will be use during the management of their patients. It is observed that the academics of dentistry feel unsafe to prescribe certain medicines. It is about a descriptive study, cross-sectional cohort, with a quantitative approach and aimed to evaluate the knowledge of dental students about the prescription of drugs, leading to a reflection on the responsibilities in which the act of prescribing requires. After the application of a questionnaire performed with 150 academics of dentistry of the Faculdades Unidas do Norte de Minas- FUNORTE, a remarkable percentage of correctness was perceived. However, were significant errors that incorrectly prescribed could jeopardize the welfare and health of the patient. However, the need for reassessment in the theoretical approach and in the main difficulties encountered through this study was identified, either in a better distribution in the academic grade or calibration between the clinical disciplines. Therefore, it is of fundamental importance to seek a technical and scientific improvement during college.
