No mundo contemporâneo, um certo “desejo de errância” (MAFFESOLI, 2006) encoraja
a mobilidade de indivíduos ou de grupos e motiva o estabelecimento de novas relações
sociais. Esses sujeitos deslocados e frequentemente desenraizados (TODOROV, 1999) expõem as
diferenças entre os mesmos e os outros, provocando reformulações nos processos de construção
identitária. A pluralidade torna-se, pois, uma realidade e levanta, amiúde, suspeitas em relação
aos bárbaros (TODOROV, 2010). De fato, essas presenças do outro (LANDOWSKI, 2012) impõem
a coexistência – não necessariamente pacífica – de modos de vida originários de outros lugares e
a escolha de estratégias de admissão ou de rejeição. Esses indivíduos, por sua vez, posicionam-se
nas sociedades que os acolhem entre os polos da assimilação ou da recusa. As fricções que resultam
desses contatos produzem faíscas que apontam novos caminhos ou iniciam incêndios. Na

In the modern world, there is a certain “craving for wandering” (MAFFESOLI, 2001),
which encourages the mobility of individuals or groups of individuals and drives the establishment
of new social relations. These displaced and oftentimes uprooted people (TODOROV, 1999) reveal the
differences between themselves and the others, leading to reformulations in the process of identity
construction. Pluralism thus becomes a reality and often raises suspicion regarding the barbarians
(TODOROV, 2010). The so-called presence of the other (LANDOWSKI, 2012), in effect, imposes the
– not necessarily peaceful – coexistence of multiple lifestyles derived from different places and the
choice for acceptance or rejection strategies. These individuals, in turn, are settled in societies that
place them between the poles of assimilation and rejection. Frictions that arise from these interactions
produce sparks of light that may either point toward new directions or burst into flames. In
Vassilis Alexakis’ work, the presence of foreigners is a recurring theme. This displaced character,
frequently the narrator of the text, illustrates and discusses social differences and their outcomes,
looking for concrete examples in French and Greek societies. This present text aims to analyze some
