Com base na relação intrínseca entre o ser humano e o ambiente em que este está inserido, sobretudo arelação advinda das comunidades e populações ancestrais, este estudo buscou correlacionaras informações históricas antigas disponíveis que remontam entre os séculos XVII a XX, com informações biogeográficas, etnobiológicas e de tentativas de correlação históricas e toponímicas recentes (séculos XX e XXI), promovendo discussão acerca da potencial origem africana do termo “Quipapá”, a qual consideramos ser a maisapropriada.
Based on the intrinsic relationship between human beings and the environment where they live, especially the relationship arising from communities and ancestral populations, this paper aimed to correlate the available ancient historical information, which dates from the 17th to the 20th centuries, with biogeographic and ethnobiological information, as well as with recent historical and toponymic correlation attempts (dating from 20th and 21st centuries), therefore promoting discussion about the potential African origin of the term “Quipapá”, which has been regarded as the most appropriate.
