Este artigo aborda a PolÃtica Externa Independente do Governo de João Goulart no
contexto anterior ao golpe civil-militar de 1964. Procuramos demonstrar, a partir do retratado
no jornal Correio do Povo, de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, como a polÃtica externa do
perÃodo contribuiu para o acirramento das disputas travadas pelo controle do poder no paÃs,
em um momento turbulento da Guerra Fria.
This articles approaches Independent External Politics of João Goulart
Governments in the prior context of civil-military overthrow. We try to demonstrate, based on
the description in the newspaper Correio do Povo, from Porto Alegre, RS, how the external
politics from that period contributed to the fiercing of the disputes engaged for power in the
country, during a very disturbed from the Cold War.
