Este artigo discute como a Idade Média representada no filme O Nome da Rosa (Der Name Der Rose, Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1986) constitui um importante meio para o ensino de História Medieval nas escolas. Ao mesmo tempo em que constrói e reforça estereótipos e preconceitos sobre a Idade Média, o cinema pode ser fonte privilegiada de desconstrução desses estigmas, de aprendizagem e conhecimento na área de História, considerando as especificidades da linguagem cinematográfica e as possibilidades interpretativas e poéticas próprias da liberdade inerente à sétima arte.

This article discusses how the Middle Age depicted in the film The Name of the Rose (Der Name Der Rose, Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1986) is an important means to teach Medieval History at schools. At the same time that it builds and reinforces stereotypes and prejudices about the Middle Age, the movies can serve as privileged source to de-construct these stigmas, enabling the learning of and knowledge about History, considering the specificities of the movies’ language and the interpretative and poetic possibilities ensuing from the freedom inherent to the Seventh Art.
