Este estudo objetiva evidenciar o discurso burguês apregoado em Senhora, por meio
das representações masculinas presentes na narrativa. A medicina, a filosofia e a literatura do
século XIX engajam-se em divulgar o modo de vida burguês na sociedade fluminense. Em
Senhora, os ideais burgueses são difundidos a partir das representações de gênero.O homem
de bem é trabalhador, honesto e poupador, entretanto,Fernando Seixas, no inÃcio do romance,
não se enquadra nesse perfil de homem ideal. Desse modo, é necessário que ele passe por um
processo de aburguesamento agenciado pelo seu casamento com Aurélia Camargo.
This work aims to highlight the bourgeois discourse in Senhora, through the
representations of men shown in the novel. The 19thcentury medicine, philosophy and
literature intend to spread the bourgeois way of life in Rio de Janeiro. The bourgeois ideals
are shown in Senhorathrough the representations of gender. A good man is hardworking,
honest and thrifty, however, Fernando Seixas, at the beginning of the novel does not fit this
profile of the ideal man. Therefore, he will be able to become an ideal bourgeois man through
his marriage to AuréliaCamargo.
