O presente artigo destaca os primeiros caminhos da fundação e funcionamento da Escola de Serviço Social no Amazonas nas décadas de 1940 e 1950. Em relação aos procedimentos metodológicos, o estudo constitui-se como uma pesquisa exploratória. O delineamento é bibliográfico e documental e foi utilizada a abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa A pesquisa revelou que a fundação da escola foi influenciada pela orientação franco-belga, enquanto nos primeiros anos de funcionamento, a instituição foi marcada pela influência da vertente norte-americana. A matriz curricular do curso incluía várias disciplinas influenciadas pelo movimento higienista, com foco em áreas relacionadas à saúde. A década de 1950 aponta uma progressiva expansão da Escola de Serviço Social de Manaus, através do fortalecimento de intercâmbios institucionais e parcerias, consolidando sua relevância na formação do Serviço Social na região.ão.
This article highlights the early founding and operation of the School of Social Work in Amazonas in the 1940s and 1950s. In terms of methodological procedures, the study is an exploratory study. The design is bibliographical and documental and a qualitative and quantitative approach was used. The research revealed that the school's foundation was influenced by the Franco-Belgian orientation, while in the first years of operation, the institution was marked by the influence of the North American approach. The course curriculum included several subjects influenced by the hygienist movement, with a focus on health-related areas. The 1950s saw a progressive expansion of the Manaus School of Social Work, through the strengthening of institutional exchanges and partnerships, consolidating its relevance in Social Work training in the region.
