Objetivou-se determinar a precisão do glicosímetro portátil FreeStyle® Optium Neo no monitoramento a campo da glicemia de ovelhas com gestação simples e múltiplas. Foram avaliadas 29 ovelhas da raça Santa Inês, com idade entre dois e seis anos, peso vivo médio de 68,2 kg, ECC 3,4±0,5. As 377 amostras sanguíneas foram obtidas durante o periparto, parto e pós-parto por venopunção da jugular e ponta de orelha. Houve correlação positiva forte entre a concentração plasmática laboratorial e a concentração sanguínea obtida pelo glicosímetro (r=0,95; n=174; P<0,01) com índice kappa apresentando 0,63 de concordância. O aparelho portátil é uma opção viável, rápida e de boa precisão para mensuração da glicemia em ovelhas.
The objective of this study was to determine the accuracy of the FreeStyle® Optium Neo portable glucometer in the field monitoring of blood glucose in sheep with single and multiple gestations. 29 Santa Inês ewes were evaluated, aged between two and six years, average live weight of 68.2 kg, BCS 3.4 ± 0.5. The 377 blood samples were obtained during the peripartum, delivery and postpartum by venipuncture of the jugular and tip of the ear. There was a strong positive correlation between the laboratory plasma concentration and the blood concentration obtained by the glucometer (r = 0.95; n = 174; P <0.01) with a kappa index showing 0.63 of agreement. The portable device is a viable, fast and good precision option for measuring blood glucose in sheep.
