O diálogo é uma das categorias de maior relevância no ensino do concílio Vaticano II. Mais do que um tema teológico pastoral, o diálogo foi um fato no concílio, o que efetivou uma real experiência conciliar. Isso tem uma implicação direta no modus essendi e no modus operandi da Igreja. O diálogo não é estratégia de articulação da comunidade, é constitutivo da natureza da Igreja; e não é apenas um método da missão, é também seu método. Pelo diálogo a Igreja melhor testemunha o Deus que crê e prega, pois o diálogo é expressão do próprio Deus, que se defi ne como relação em seu próprio ser (Agostinho) e estabelece uma relação salvífi ca com a humanidade. Aqui temos um dos principais desafi os para a missão da Igreja em nossos dias: pregar e viver o Evangelho dialogando com todos os cristãos, as religiões, a sociedade.

Dialogue is one of the most relevant elements of the teaching the Council Vatican II has given to us. It is more than a theological pastoral subject. Dialogue was a matter of fact in the Council, and has provided a real experience for the participants of this event. Th is has a direct implication in the modus essendi and the modus operandi of the Church. Dialogue is not an strategy to articulate the comunity, it is part of the very nature of the Church; it is not only a method to be used in the missionary work, it is the way of being of the whole Church. By the use of dialogue, the Church testifi es with greater credibility what it says and proclaims about God, because dialogue is an expression of God himself, which is defi ned in relation to his own being (Augustin) and stablishes a relation of salvation with humanity. So, here we have one of the most important chalenges for the mission of the church in our days: to preach and live the Gospel in dialogue with all Christians, with the the religions and the society.
