In the years 1963 and 1986, CPRM (SUREGs PA and SP) developed a project to integrate drilling and outcrop data along the entire eastern border of the Paraná Basin, obtained during the research programs for coal. One of the main objectives was the elaboration of a peleoambiental section, from wells, in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and São Paulo. Data on the southern part of this paleoenvironmental section were presented in previous work (LOPES et alii , 1986; LAVINA & LOPES, 1987)
