A massa do fruto e os diâmetros longitudinal e transversal dos frutos de aceroleira foram mensurados com o objetivo de verificar se a seleção praticada nesses caracteres, mais facilmente mensuráveis, conduz a ganhos indiretos na redução da massa das sementes, no aumento do rendimento de polpa e na redução dos teores de umidade da polpa. Para obtenção de frutos com maior rendimento em produtividade e maior rendimento de massa de polpa deve-se selecionar primeiramente os acessos com frutos de maior massa e, entre esses, os que produzirem frutos com menor diâmetro transversal, uma vez que a avaliação dessas duas características é mais fácil que a avaliação da massa da polpa.
