O livro sobre a primeira viagem no Brasil da escritora italiana Gemma Ferruggia (1867-1930) é aqui analisado na vertente da interpretação da imigração italiana ao extremo norte do Brasil no período da borracha. A perspectiva de Ferruggia resulta no especial interesse pela atenção dedicada à cultura e à sociedade brasileiras e pela inserção da imigração italiana num discurso mais abrangente sobre todas as migrações na área. No jogo literário realizado pela escritora, a análise pontual do contexto social da imigração é por assim dizer, suavizada e amenizada por uma apresentação de si quase caricatural, marcada por uma auto ironia antifeminista que atravessa o livro inteiro.
The book about the first trip in Brazil of the italian writer Gemma Ferrugia (1867 – 1930) is here analyzed in terms of the interpretation of Italian immigration to the extreme northern Brazil during the period of the rubber cycle. The prospect of Ferruggia, results in the special interest the attention dedicated to culture and society in Brazil and by insertion of the Italian immigration in a broader speech about all migrations in the area.
