Este artigo analisa o conto “Retrato de cavalo†constante em Tutaméia – terceiras estórias (1967) do escritor mineiro João Guimarães Rosa. Abordaremos a relação das personagens com a realidade e com a representação dentro da narrativa, focalizando a fotografia do cavalo e os sentidos que a ela se agregam. Procuraremos mostrar como em algumas passagens os signos de luz e sombra ligam-se à representação, a qual desestabiliza ao máximo os objetos representados e demais personagens. Para tanto, dialogaremos com Platão, Merleau-Ponty, Blanchot e Barthes sempre que julgarmos necessária essa interlocução.

This article analyzes the short story "Horse Portrait" (Tutaméia – terceiras estórias, 1967), written by João Guimarães Rosa. We will discuss the relationship of the characterswith reality and representation within the narrative, focusing on the photograph of thehorse and the meanings that are added to it. We will seek to show how the signs in some passages of light and shadow bind to the representation, which destabilizes the most of the other characters and objects depicted. To this end, dialogue with Plato, Merleau-Ponty, Blanchot and Barthes whenever we deem this necessary dialogue.
