In the 1960s, the first of a geological nature, developed by UFSM, resulted in the denomination of the Tupanciretã Formation (1,2), which was characterized as a sedimentary sequence covering the volcanic rocks of the Serra Geral Formation, in the Middle Plateau region of South, an area that until then was considered to be the occurrence of the Botucatu Sandstone that would emerge there, thanks to the existence of a stratigraphic window
