O objetivo do presente artigo é trabalhar com o conceito de polifonia proposto por Mikail Bakhtin em seu livro Problemas da Poética de Dostoievski e como esse conceito pode ser aplicado à terceira parte da obra O tempo e o vento, de Erico Verissimo, intitulada O Arquipélago. Bakhtin utiliza-se do conceito de polifonia para destacar uma contraposição entre o romance monofônico, também conhecido como tradicional, de uma forma peculiar de romance, onde cada personagem funciona como um ser autônomo, que cultiva sua própria visão de mundo e que não está submetido à visão de mundo do próprio autor. Para o teórico russo, o escritor tido como referência em se tratando de romance polifônico é Fiodor Dostoievski (1821-1881) que, segundo ele, foi o único capaz de alcançar a magnitude do significado do termo. O conceito de polifonia é, muitas vezes, confundido com outros termos da linguÃstica como, por exemplo, o dialogismo, por isso, é necessária muita cautela na definição de um romance como sendo polifônico. Sendo assim, a presente investigação busca evidências que comprovem traços da polifonia bakhtiniana no grande romance de Erico Verissimo.
The aim of this paper is to work with the concept of polyphony proposed by Mikhail Bakhtin in Problems of Dostoevsky's poetics and how this concept can be applied to the third part of the novel The weather and wind, by Erico Verissimo, titled Archipelago. Bakhtin uses the concept of polyphony to highlight a contrast between the novel mono, also known as traditional, a peculiar form of romance, in which each character serves as an independent being who cultivates his own vision of the world and that is not enslaved to the worldview of the author himself. For the Russian theorist, the writer had as a reference when dealing with polyphonic novel the author Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881), which was the only one who could reach the magnitude of the meaning of the term. The concept of polyphony is often confused with other terms of linguistics, for example, dialogism, so caution is needed in the definition of a novel as being polyphonic.Thus, the present investigation searches for evidence to prove traces of Bakhtin’s poliphony in the great novel by Erico Verissimo.
