As produções cinematográficas são carregadas de “ágoras”, por terem em si a carga das representações de vivencias e angustias, produzindo, configurando e organizando as experiências das pessoas. Neste sentido, um dos maiores produtores de representações na cinematografia do Século XX foi Charles Chaplin, que por meio de suas obras mostrou a organização da sociedade em que viveu, as dificuldades que as pessoas de classes mais baixas enfrentavam e a pela busca da felicidade. O Presente artigo visa discutir aspectos do mundo do trabalho na sociedade ocidental representados em uma das obras mais representativas de Chaplin, qual seja, Tempos Modernos (1936). O cinema é carregado de representações, assim como é um documento de seu próprio tempo, um testemunho que pode e deve ser utilizar como meio para discussão histórica e de representação, sendo isto o que se pretende aqui.

In this sense, one of the largest producers of representations in the cinema of the twentieth century was Charles Chaplin, who through his works showed the organization of society in which he lived, the difficulties that the lower classes of people faced and the pursuit of happiness. The article discusses present aspects of the world of work in Western society represented in one of the most representative works of Chaplin, namely Modern Times (1936). The film is full of representations, as it is a document of their own time, a testimony that can and should be used as a means of historical discussion and representation, that is what is intended here.
