O artigo oferece comentários a respeito da contraditória interação do protestantismo com a cultura religiosa de sociedade brasileira ao indicar que suas expressões eclesiásticas deram origem a formas alternativas de religiosidade que se manifestam numa mescla estonteante de emancipação individualista, autoritarismo e visão mágica do mundo. Sublinha também as debilidades teológicas das versões eclesiológicas protestantes aqui implantadas que não souberam, ou não puderam mesmo, resistir à antropofagia cultural dos trópicos, ao abandonarem as formas e os conteúdos teológicos dos modelos eclesiástico-pastorais exportados pelas metrópoles espirituais do norte do hemisfério e assumir os sonhos, os desejos e as carências vivenciados e sentidos a partir das matrizes religioso-culturais do povo brasileiro.

The paper offers comments about the contradictory interaction of Protestantism with the religious culture of Brazilian society. It indicates that the ecclesiastical expressions of the Protestantism gave rise to alternative forms of religiosity that manifest themselves in a dizzying mix of individualistic emancipation, authoritarianism and magical view of the world. It also emphasizes the theological weakness of the Protestant ecclesiological versions here established that they did not know, or not might even resist the cultural cannibalism of the tropics, by abandoning the forms and theological content of ecclesiastical and pastoral models exported by the spiritual metropolis of northern hemisphere and take dreams, desires and needs experienced and felt from the religious and cultural headquarters of the Brazilian people.
