The purpose of this article is to analyze gender relations in popular and independent music spaces based on the performance of women musicians in the city of Ponta Grossa, Parana, Brazil. Therefore, a bibliographical and documentary research was carried out, complemented by quantitative and qualitative analysis of statistical data and a questionnaire, addressed to musicians and musicians who work in the city. The motivation to develop this research stems from the experience of one of the authors as an instrumentalist and music teacher and the proposal to problematize these experiences from a geographical and feminist perspective. The results obtained demonstrate that, historically, women receive little incentive to act with freedom in the musical field and that when they propose to occupy the different spaces related to music, they still face a series of prejudices and stigmas. However, as in other contexts, women have entered the music industry and have sought to occupy these spaces in what can be characterized as a movement of empowerment and resistance.
