A disciplina de Geografia, apesar de sua importância para uma melhor interação do ser humano com a natureza e com os problemas que o circundam, vem sofrendo com um velho preconceito que a classificou como mnemônica e, portanto, chata e sem importância. Desse modo, o professor tem um papel fundamental, que é desmistificar o estigma que carrega esta área do conhecimento, através de uma mudança no modo como os conteúdos programáticos são trabalhados em sala de aula. Nesse sentido, este trabalho foi realizado a partir de pesquisa em livros didáticos de Geografia do 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental II; entrevistas com professores de Geografia de dez escolas da rede de ensino da cidade de Campina Grande/PB, objetivando levantar a utilização de letras de música como instrumento alternativo na prática de ensino-aprendizagem. Ficou evidenciado que é fundamental a utilização de novas estratégias didático-pedagógicas, de modo a transformar as aulas de Geografia em algo significativo, evidenciando a necessidade de renovação e inovação no ensino desta disciplina.

The discipline of geography, despite its importance for a better interaction of humans with nature and with the problems that surround it, has suffered from an old prejudice that classified as mnemonic and therefore boring and unimportant. Thus, the teacher has a key role that is to demystify the stigma that carries this area of knowledge, through a change in the way the syllabus is worked in the classroom. In this sense, this work was carried out from research in textbooks on geography in 9th grade of Elementary School II, interviews with teachers of Geography ten schools in the schools of the city of Campina Grande/PB, aiming to raise the use of letters music as an alternative to the practice of teaching and learning.It was evident that it is essential to use of new didactic and pedagogical strategies in order to transform the geography lessons into something significant, highlighting the need for renewal and innovation in the teaching of this discipline.
