O Liber Miraculorum reúne narrativas de milagres atribuídos a São Tiago. Este personagem neotestamentário, segundo a tradição, foi o responsável por evangelizar a Hispânia. Após retornar a Palestina, foi martirizado e seu corpo milagrosamente trasladado até a Galiza, onde foi sepultado. Este livro contém um prólogo e a narração de vinte e dois milagres. Esta obra compõe a compilação anônima formada por cinco livros conhecida como Liber Sancti Jacobi, que foi organizada no século XII, a partir de fontes diversas, na escola vinculada à Catedral de Compostela, durante o episcopado de Diego Gelmírez. Dentre as muitas possibilidades de abordagem, optei por discutir qual é a concepção de história que perpassa as narrações miraculosas presentes nesta obra. Defendo que o Liber Miraculorum apresenta uma visão particular da história, que mediou a descrição e a compreensão dos acontecimentos relatados, e é fruto da confluência de diversas tradições e influências, bem como do seu contexto social de produção.
The Liber Miraculorum gathers narratives of miracles attributed to St. James. This New Testament character, according to tradition, was responsible for evangelizing Hispania. After returning to Palestine, he was martyred and his body miraculously translated to Galicia, where he was buried. This book contains a prologue and the narration of twenty-two miracles. This work forms the anonymous compilation comprised of five books called Liber Sancti Jacobi, which was organized in the twelfth century, from various sources, at school of Santiago de Compostela´s Cathedral, during the episcopate of Diego Gelmírez. Among the many possible approaches, I chose to discuss the conception of history which permeates these miraculous narratives. I argue that the Liber Miraculorum presents a particular view of history, that mediated the description and understanding of the events described, which is the result of the confluence of different traditions and influences, as well as of its social production.
