Of all the measures adopted to contain the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, the suspension of school activities is among those with the greatest impact. In addition to the potential to drastically decrease movement and interaction in large cities, this suspension imposes a radical change in the way life is conducted. It was in this context that an intense debate was established about what to do in the circumstances of interruption of these activities. In this article, it is argued that the analysis of these circumstances should take into account, mainly, the contemporary dynamics of restructuring the teaching work and the conditions of unequal access to educational opportunities in the country. It is also argued that it is necessary to bear in mind the fundamental components of the crisis, or rather, the crises that are ongoing, in Brazil and in the world, and that go far beyond the urgent health dimension.
