A Conferência do Nordeste (1962) foi uma forte expressão do vínculo entre Igreja e Sociedade por parte de setores signifi cativos do protestantismo brasileiro. A Conferência contribuiu para que o protestantismo melhor conhecesse o Brasil, em suas questões culturais, políticas e econômicas. Isso possibilitou um redimensionamento teológico para aqueles setores protestantes que buscaram viver a fé inseridos em seu contexto social. E aqui está uma fundamental contribuição protestante para um modo de viver o cristianismo na América Latina vinculando fé e vida, oração e ação, na perspectiva da teologia da libertação e em parceria com os movimentos que buscam a transformação social.

Th e North-east Conference (1962) was a strong manifestation of the bond between Church and Society expressed by signifi cant sectors of the Brazilian Protestantism. Th e Conference has helped the Protestants to have a better understanding of Brazil, in the fi eld of its cultural, political and economical issues. Th is has led to a new theological comprehension for those Protestant sectors that have been in search of ways to live their faith in their social context. And here we have a fundamental contribution of Protestantism to a way of living the Christian faith in Latin America, establishing relationship between faith and life, prayer and action, in the perspective of the liberation theology and in partnership with moviments that work for social transformation.
