O magistério do Papa Francisco gira em torno de três eixos: a sinodalidade como método, a missão como relevância do ser cristão para o mundo e a ecologia integral como horizonte de responsabilidade para o futuro da humanidade. No texto que segue, o Autor perscruta esse magistério em vista do “Sínodo para a Amazônia” a ser realizado em outubro de 2019, em Roma. O papa justificou a convocação desse Sínodo Pan-Amazônico com o pedido de algumas Conferências Episcopais da América Latina, de Pastores e fiéis de outras partes do mundo. O Sínodo Pan-Amazônico é dedicado à preservação de um bioma com seus habitantes e tem como ponto de partida o imenso território do qual fazem parte nove países: Bolívia, Colômbia, Equador, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname, Guiana e Guiana Francesa e Brasil. Ao mesmo tempo, esse sínodo tem um horizonte planetário, já que Amazônia, que é considerada pulmão do mundo, está hoje com uma pneumonia aguda (DAp, n. 475).

Pope Francis’ magisterium revolves around three axes: synodality as a method, the relevance of the Christians’ mission to the world, and integral ecology as the horizon of responsibility for the future of humankind. In the following text, the author examines this magisterium in the context of the Pan-Amazonian Synod to be held in October 2019, in Rome. The Pope justified summoning this Synod based on requests that came from some Conferences of Latin American Bishops, as well as pastors and believers from other parts of the world. The Pan-Amazon Synod will be dedicated to the preservation of biomes and their inhabitants, starting with an immense territory comprising nine countries: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana and Brazil. This Synod will also have a planetary horizon, since the Amazon, considered the world’s lungs, is presently suffering from acute pneumonia (Dap, n. 475).
