If one of the goals of the educational system is to contribute to the integral formation, it must
be considered the influence of media and their languages in the subtle translation of the
dominant ideology in capitalist society. Through media, demands for acquisition of consumer
goods are created therefore seeking the fulfillment of desire and the implantation of
superfluous needs. The purpose of this study was to investigate advertisements as a type of
media discourse that places the subject in a position of desire. It is intended to provide
subsidies to faculty, seeking to understand the ideology of consumerism that installs in all
institutions, including the school. The reference used was pecheutian Discourse Analysis,
which considers the subject determined by ideology, and lacanian psychoanalysis, which points
desire and lack as constitutive to the subject. Advertisements for a car and beer were analyzed
as fillers in a demand that is imposed as necessary. It was felt that media plays with the lack
question by offering substitute products. Exploring these media discourses in relation to
education seems to be an important tool for the formation of a critical and responsible attitude.
