Este artigo aponta o isolamento histórico que existe entre o arte-educador e o artista. Contrariando a ideia de que ao primeiro profissional se atribui apenas as questões pedagógicas e ao segundo a dádiva do dom, propõe-se uma reflexão sobre a atuação do professor-artista. Tal reflexão contempla especialmente o campo das artes cênicas e compreende a escola como espaço capaz de desenvolver atividades teatrais consistentes, que tenham tanto qualidades artísticas como educativas. Além disso, são pontuados ainda os preconceitos que os próprios profissionais da área exercem sobre o trabalho na escola, da mesma forma que muitas instituições de ensino não compreendem a necessidade do professor de teatro atuar de forma plena. O professor-artista é compreendido aqui como o profissional da educação devidamente habilitado e comprometido com a formação social e artística do indivíduo, assim como com a aproximação entre a produção cultural e a escola.

This article points out the historical isolation that exists between the art educator and the artist. Contrary to the idea that the first professional can only handle pedagogical issues and the second is gifted with talent, a reflection is proposed on the role of the teacher-artist. This discussion focuses on the field of performing arts and the understanding of the school as a space able to develop consistent drama activities, that have both artistic and educational qualities. It is also discussed the bias that professionals have about the work in school, and the fact that many educational institutions do not understand the need for the drama teacher to work all his profession aspects. The teacher-artist as described here is the education professional fully qualified and committed with the social and artistic formation of the students, as well as the approximation between the culture and the school.
