The Institute of Natural Sciences of the Federal University of Santa Maria, installed on March 22, 1962, is pleased to present its Bulletin, designed to publicize the scientific works carried out there and to report on its activities.

Provisionally operated in the laboratory of the Botanic Chair Applies to the Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy of Santa Maria, until its definitive headquarters is completed in the University City of the University of Santa Maria, and, on the other hand, struggling with the deficiencies of personnel, material and facilities imposed by the general reduction of funds destined to the Ministry of Education and Culture in the current exercise, could not give full execution to its plan of activities for the year 1962.

The publication of this Bulletin later this year is due to the cooperation of the substitute Rector of USM, Prof. Hélios Homero Bernardi, from the Director of the Faculty of Agronomy of Santa Maria, Prof. Ary Bento Costa, and the Director of the Department of Central Administration, Prof. Luiz Gonzaga Isaia, for which we thank you very much. We express our gratitude to suggestions and constructive criticism, which will be well received as a contribution to our modest efforts
