Lontra longicaudis, conhecida popularmente como lontra neotropical, é um mamífero carnívoro semiaquático, pertencente à ordem Carnivora, família Mustelidae e subfamília Lutrinae, representada por treze espécies de lontras. Mesmo havendo estudos sobre os hábitos alimentares da L. longicaudis em habitat natural, existem poucas pesquisas em cativeiro. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a preferência alimentar da Lontra longicaudis em cativeiro no Zoológico Municipal de Guarulhos, São Paulo. Encontrarmos animais dessa espécie no seu ambiente natural e em cativeiro, desperta o interesse de um estudo comparativo sob essas duas condições. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho mostram que, diferentemente dos indivíduos de vida livre, que têm a maior parte de sua dieta composta por peixes, a lontra presente no zoológico, teve preferência por carne bovina com adição de ração, o que pode estar ligado com o fato de ter sido levado ao zoológico ainda filhote, não tendo assim contato direto com alimentos que poderia encontrar na natureza.

Lontra longicaudis is popularly known as neotropical otter, this animal is a semi-aquatic carnivorous mammal belonging to the order Carnivora, family Mustelidae and subfamily Lutrinae. This sufamily has thirteen species of otters. Although there are studies on the eating habits of L. longicaudis in natural habitat, there is little research in captivity. The objective of this work is to analyze the feeding preference of captive Lontra longicaudis in the Guarulhos Municipal Zoo, São Paulo. Animals of this species are found in their natural and captive environments, for this reason there is interest of a comparative study under these two conditions. The results obtained in this work show that, unlike free-living individuals, who have most of their diet composed of fish, the otter present in the zoo, had a preference for beef with added ration, which may be linked with because it was taken to the zoo as a puppy, thus not having direct contact with food that could be found in the wild.
